The About page is frequently the second or third most visited page on a business website — visitors who want to know whether to trust the business go there — but most About pages are written as a history of the business rather than as a conversion tool. An About page that connects the founder's story to the customer's problem, demonstrates credibility, and ends with a clear next step converts visitors into leads; a history-focused About page does not.

The About page structure that converts: (1) Open with the customer's problem, not the company's history. 'We started SmartBrandly because we saw small businesses struggling to build professional brand identities without designer budgets' is more compelling than 'SmartBrandly was founded in 2024.' The visitor immediately recognizes: this company understands my situation. (2) Tell the founder's story in terms of what motivated them to solve the problem, not a chronological history. (3) Establish credibility briefly — results achieved, companies served, media mentions. (4) Humanize with a specific detail that makes the brand memorable. (5) End with a clear call to action.

The credibility section design: 'We've helped hundreds of businesses' is not credible. 'We've generated over 15,000 brand kits for businesses in 40 countries' is credible — the specificity makes it checkable and therefore more believable. Adding logos of notable companies served, publications that covered the brand, or specific results from specific clients transforms a generic credibility claim into genuine trust.

The About page for solo businesses: freelancers and solopreneurs who write their About page in third person ('John Smith is a marketing consultant who...') create unnecessary distance. First-person writing ('I work with...') on an About page for a solo business is more authentic, more personal, and more likely to connect with prospective clients who are making a human trust decision.
